Abstract :The Fujimaki Clinic is located on the main street in Ueno, Tokamachi City. The main building was built in 1934, and it is the first Western style building in Ueno, having Western style exterior, ixamination room, staircases, and hallway, however, its six sickrooms and murse's break room are Japanese style with Tatami mats. Unlike typical Japanese structures, which are built very close to the street, the clinic site is surrounded by stone walls and the main building is recessed with some distance from the street. Moreover, large lotus flower, or oval shaped stones are used for the front wall. The size of stones becomes smaller as the wall approaches the rear of the building. The clinic has supported people of the community. The clinic is, needless to say, important as a cultural asset because its site, main building, and stone wall have not been renovated since 1934.
