Abstract :This study aims to develop a new drifting snow model considering spatial difference of snowfall velocities of snow particles. In this model, two transport equations of drifting snow density are solved with two different types of snowfall velocities which correspond to the snow particles falling from the air and those coming from the ground surface. CFD prediction of snowdrift around a cubic shaped building model using developed new model was carried out. The mechanism of snowdrift formation around the building model was then clarified by estimating the contribution ratio of the snow particles from the air and those from the surface to snow coverage distribution.
